Dr. Ackermann’s talk looks at the historical impact of veterinary medicine on global health. He talks about his own research, which focuses on the link between RSV and lambs, and tells audience members about a drug that can help shorten the impact of the common cold.

Ilze Matīse‑VanHoutan, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Mars Inc.
As a veterinary pathologist and researcher, Dr. Matīse‑VanHoutan never expected to find herself at the center of a scandal. It’s not a typically scandalous job, after all. But what began as a professional investigation triggered by an outbreak of a deadly dog disease, developed into a tangled mess of vested interests and politics.

K. Paige Carmichael, Pathology at at University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine
Veterinary Pathologist, Dr. Paige Carmichael makes the case for teaching the One Health approach to disease to pre-professional students. In her TedTalk, she explains how this could greatly enhance our ability to recognize, diagnose, and eliminate diseases by emphasizing the interconnectedness between human health, animal health, and the environment early in their medical careers rather than after they enter professional medical training.
