R. Keith Harris, DVM, DACVP and the Certifying Examination Board. Keith has served as the Chair of the ACVP Certifying Examination Board since its inception, following previous tenures on the Certifying Examination Committee, Council and as President. He has led the monumental effort to modernize the certifying examination and ensure rigorous standards for certification in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. Keith recently retired from his position as Chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, a position he held since 2008. Dr. Harris received his DVM from Texas A&M University before pursuing a residency in anatomic pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP). After a long tenure in the military and at AFIP, Keith worked in the biopharmaceutical industry for Pfizer/Wyeth. Keith’s devotion to the College and his keen ability to motivate, inspire and engage those around him, have brought about seismic change in how the certifying exam is created, delivered, and results assessed. ACVP is very grateful for Dr. Harris’ leadership and the cumulative efforts of the entire Certifying Examination Board.

Evan Janovitz, DVM, PhD, DACVP played a pivotal role in the major revision of ACVP’s bylaws in 2017. As a former member of Council and a Certifying Examination Committee Chair, with additional experience on a number of nonprofit governing boards, Evan had a unique perspective to bring ACVP’s bylaws to current best practice standards.  Dr. Janovitz is currently the Director of Pathology in Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Discovery Toxicology program. Prior to his role at BMS, Evan was a diagnostic pathologist at the Purdue Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory where he facilitated the University’s residency program in veterinary pathology and mentored graduate students. Dr. Janovitz received his DVM from The Ohio State University before pursuing a residency in anatomic pathology and PhD at Purdue. Bylaws are ponderous but necessary documents that guide an organization’s governance and operations. When Council reached out, Evan enthusiastically answered the call to serve ACVP. ACVP appreciates his dedication.

Rebecca L. Johnson, MD and the American Board of Pathology (ABP). Dr. Johnson is the Chief Executive Officer of ABP, based in Tampa, Florida. ACVP and ABP forged a partnership in 2015 to deliver ACVP’s certification examination at their facility.  Dr. Johnson and her staff have provided invaluable expertise and counsel to the Certifying Examination Board in the exam transition process. Dr. Johnson is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, Hematology, and Immunopathology. She was previously Chairperson of Pathology & Clinical Laboratories at Berkshire Health Systems in Pittsfield, MA. Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed her residency in pathology at Hartford Hospital. ACVP is grateful to Dr. Johnson and her exceptional staff for this synergistic partnership.

Jane Shepard has served as ACVP’s Director of Meetings since the College joined The Rees Group, Inc. management company in 2001. Wearing many hats, she manages all logistical arrangements, food/beverage, travel, and lodging accommodations for ACVP Annual Meetings and any face-to-face meeting functions for Council, the Certifying Examination Board, the Education Committee, and all ACVP working groups. Jane also supports the development of the scientific program and manages abstracts, posters, and exhibits. She performs her role with professionalism, efficiency and always with a smile, easygoing demeanor and steady hand.  ACVP and its members appreciate Jane’s dedication and enthusiastic service.
