Anatomic pathology externs will rotate through the necropsy and biopsy services at MSU CVM Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Externs will interact with veterinary students rotating on necropsy, as well as residents and faculty senior pathologists. Externs will perform gross necropsies on a variety of species, including domestic large and small animals, avian, and other zoo species. Externs will participate in writing gross reports and presenting case findings at necropsy rounds. Externs will also rotate through the biopsy service and attend surgical pathology rounds with residents and senior pathologists and will gain experience in writing a biopsy report. Externs will have the opportunity to attend a variety of rounds sessions, including weekly gross image case rounds, necropsy grand rounds, surgical pathology rounds, and other elective rounds including ocular pathology, dermatopathology, oncology, laboratory animal pathology, and Wednesday case discussion rounds.
