ACVP remains committed to serving the educational and networking needs of anatomic pathology and clinical pathology members and non-members at its Annual Meeting.
Abstract Information
Your research deserves a bigger stage! Share your work with veterinary pathologists, trainees, and students at the 2025 ACVP Annual Meeting. Submit an abstract today for a chance to present your findings as a scientific poster or platform presentation.

Calls for Abstracts
ACVP issues three calls for abstracts for possible presentation at the Annual Meeting. A general call for abstracts, a veterinary student abstract call; and a call for late-breaking abstracts. All abstracts must fit within the scope of the meeting, which aims to promote excellence in veterinary pathology.
2025 Calls
- Call for abstracts – May 1 – July 1
- Call for veterinary student abstracts – June 16 – August 4
- Call for late-breaking abstracts – July 28 – August 27
Submission of an abstract implies commitment to present at the meeting (as an oral presentation or poster). All presenters of accepted abstracts are expected to travel to and register for the Annual Meeting at their own expense. Please do not submit research if you are not planning to attend the meeting. Abstract submitters are encouraged to review all information below as well as abstract award information prior to submission.
Abstracts from the general call will be considered for poster presentation or for oral presentation within Focused Scientific Sessions.
Current veterinary medicine students are encouraged to submit pathology-related research or case work material in diagnostic pathology, experimental disease, or natural disease, for poster presentation, during the veterinary student call. A select few student abstracts will also be chosen to present orally during the Veterinary Student Platform Session. All student abstracts are considered for ACVP Student Poster Awards and submitters may also indicate an interest in being considered for ACVP Pathology of Wildlife and Zoo Animals Award or Society of Toxicologic Pathology Resident and Student Poster Award as well at time of submission.
Research that is not ready for submission at the time of the general call may be submitted during the late-breaking call. Abstracts accepted through the later call may only be presented as posters, incur a $50 fee, and will not be considered for any awards.
ACVP does not recommend presenting abstracts/research that has been previously published or presented at another conference. In situations where a journal article is in preparation at the same time as abstract submission, it is recommended that the authors declare to the conference organizers that the content of the presentation is based on a forthcoming article.
Abstract Submission Guidelines
Oral Presentations
Focused Scientific Sessions provide an opportunity for individuals (members and non-members) to present novel findings at the ACVP/ASVCP Annual Meeting in five categories, as short oral platform presentations or as posters. These categories are designed to allow for abstract submission in broad areas that represent the diversity in Veterinary Pathology.
- Clinical Pathology
- Diagnostic Pathology
- Experimental Disease
- Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology
- Natural Disease
Dedicated platform sessions for each focused scientific category will include oral presentations of selected abstracts.
Poster Presentations
Posters will be showcased on the day scheduled for each focused scientific area with specific scheduled times when authors are asked to be available next to their posters to answer attendee questions. All submitters of abstracts accepted for poster presentation at the 2025 Annual Meeting will be asked to upload a final PDF of their posters by October 3, to be made available for registrant virtual viewing in advance of, and throughout, the Annual Meeting via the meeting mobile app and to be used for poster award judging, if applicable.
2024 Poster Rotation – 2025 details to be posted soon
- Saturday: Veterinary Students (authors attend 5:30-7pm)
- Sunday: Diagnostic Pathology (authors attend 9:45-10:15am and 3-3:30pm)
- Monday: Clinical Pathology, Experimental Disease, Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology, and Natural Disease (authors attend 9:45-10:15am and 3-3:30pm)
- Tuesday: Late-breaking (author attends 9:45-10:15am and 3-3:30pm)
Posters may also be viewed Saturday 5:30-7pm and Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday 7-8am and 9:45am-3:30pm, but authors do not need to be present at these additional times.
Award winning posters are requested to be displayed electronically, from Saturday through Tuesday.
Abstract Awards
Veterinary student and veterinary pathology residents and graduate student abstract submitters are encouraged to include their submission for award considerations. See Abstract Awards for more information. Note, submitters of abstracts accepted for poster presentation applying for any of the related awards will be asked to upload a PDF of their final poster. Posters submitters for award categories will be required to upload their posters 3 weeks prior to meeting to be eligible for judging. There will be no exceptions for late posters. We ask that awards submitters work with their mentors and co-authors to ensure timely submission.
Focused Scientific Categories
Clinical Pathology
Abstracts in the Clinical Pathology session are focused on clinical pathology diagnostics and clinicopathologic aspects of natural or experimental disease.
Diagnostic Pathology
Abstracts in the Diagnostic Pathology session are intended to be an opportunity for presentation of original work and/or brief pathology case reports. Abstracts submitted to this category are typically reports of classic disease entities, common diseases in an unusual species, or an atypical disease in any one animal. This session also includes brief descriptions of new/contemporary diagnostic tests/methods. The emphasis in this category should be on descriptive, not mechanistic, pathology.
Experimental Disease
Abstracts in the Experimental Disease session include in-depth investigations into the pathophysiology or pathogenesis of experimentally induced disease processes in relevant animal species or in animal models. Submission in this category may include mechanistic pathology of experimentally induced diseases or descriptions of new animal model systems and the comparative pathology of those models.
Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology
Abstracts in the Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology session include descriptions and in-depth investigations into the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of toxins, chemicals, environmental pollutants and xenobiotic agents. Topics can include investigative studies, case reports, regulatory study summaries or studies with laboratory animal models that are relevant to industrial pathology.
Natural Disease
Abstracts in the Natural Disease session include in-depth investigations into the pathology or pathophysiology of naturally occurring or emerging disease processes, detailed case series of a particular process, or naturally occurring disease spectrum in a given population. This session also includes in-depth descriptions of new/contemporary diagnostic testing that would include details on method, validation and optimization in a case series and thus not be suitable for the brief format of the Diagnostic Pathology session.
