General Training Objectives
Instruction in veterinary pathology for the purpose of training in research towards
a PhD qualification and to prepare candidates in diagnostic pathology for ACVP
board Certification.
Programs Offered
This is a five-year program. Course requirements include general pathology, advanced
systemic pathology, biochemistry, statistics, oncology, advanced hematology,
advanced clinical pathology and other topics by agreement between the graduate
student and advisors. A Master's qualification for residents is also available.
Qualifications
The program is designed for post-DVM students. It is expected that to be accepted
a student will have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and be ranked in the
upper quartile of his/her class.
Environment
The College has a clinical program which embraces all domestic species, laboratory
animal medicine, and fish diseases. Facilities available include electron microscopy,
flow cytometry, a P3 laboratory and electron spin resonance spectrometry. Faculty
strengths, in addition to pathology, include microbiology, virology, parasitology,
toxicology, immunology, and neuropathology. The University is committed
to supporting biotechnology through several colleges and there is good inter-collegiate
participation in research areas of mutual interest.

Program Strengths
Areas of particular strength include: diagnostic pathology, toxicology, immunology,
molecular biology, neuropathology and infectious diseases. There are 5
ACVP diplomates in the department of 33 basic science and diagnostic medicine
faculty members.
Financial Support
Stipends are competitive. Additionally, full tuition waivers are granted.
