Description of Externship:
Our laboratory evaluates histopathology and cytology specimens submitted by veterinarians
throughout the United States. We do not perform gross post mortem exams. Our
files contain thousands of past cases which are available for review. We have
prepared a series of student study sets of various lesions and conditions which
the student can examine and study using textbooks and resources that we provide
or that they bring with them. After a student has completed reviewing a study
set, one of our pathology staff will sit down with the student on a dual headed
microscope to discuss the cases and evaluate the student's findings and conclusions.
The student is also invited to attend weekly staff review sessions. The student
can spend time in histology, learning tissue trimming in procedures and histology
processing and slide preparation.
