ACVP Young Investigator Awards Poster Competition

The ACVP offers a Young Investigator Awards (YIA) Poster Competition in four categories:

  • Diagnostic Pathology
    Experimental Disease
    Natural Disease
    Toxicologic Pathology

If fewer than 5 abstracts are submitted within a specific category, these abstracts may be combined with another category by the YIA Chair.  Each of these categories will offer up to three monetary awards:

First Place: $500
Second Place: $300
Third Place: $200

This ACVP awards program recognizes quality poster presentations by veterinary pathology residents and graduate students. The posters will be judged by College Diplomates representing several specialty groups, during the Annual Meeting in Monterey, California on December 5-9, 2009.  Individuals eligible for this competition must be veterinarians currently enrolled in a residency or graduate program in veterinary pathology or that have completed such a program after June 30, 2008. The poster must present original work of the competitor completed during the period of residency or graduate training.

Undergraduate veterinary students still enrolled in a College of Veterinary Medicine are also encouraged to submit posters for the meeting, but they will be judged under a separate category and will be eligible for awards dedicated to student posters (for more information on veterinary student poster awards, see the information below.

Competitors must:

  • Be the first author of the presentation
  • Should have performed the major portion of the work
  • May submit only one poster for consideration
  • Register and attend the ACVP Annual Meeting

Abstracts must be submitted by June 1, 2009 to the ACVP website.

*Competitors are also encouraged to be present at their poster display during the Focused Poster Session on Saturday evening, December 5 from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. during the Opening Reception; however this is not mandatory.

Awards will be announced at the ACVP Business Meeting, on Tuesday, December 8, at the Annual Meeting in Monterey. Recipients are asked to display their winning poster on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon in the Young Investigator Award poster session.

Entries, as well as competition category, should be indicated on the abstract form. Please note that any additional award a competitor applies for may dictate the category of YIA that he/she is placed in (e.g., if a competitor requests to be entered in the ACVP/AAVLD Travel Award, they will be placed in the Diagnostic Pathology category, or if competing for the STP Award they will be placed in the Toxicologic Pathology category).  Thus, please ensure that your abstract is in the appropriate YIA category for the awards that you would like to compete for.

If there are any additional questions, please contact Kelli Boyd at kelli.l.boyd@vanderbilt.edu or Jane Shepard at the ACVP Executive Office at meetings@acvp.org.

Diagnostic Pathology Travel Award

Purpose
The American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) encourage trainees in veterinary pathology to participate in the Annual Meetings of both organizations.  The third annual ACVP Diagnostic Pathology Travel Award is available to graduate students and/or residents in veterinary pathology for participation in the Annual Meeting of the AAVLD.
